2010 Conference for Writers

The Gettysburg Review is pleased to announce its fourth annual Conference for Writers, to be held June 9–14, 2010, on the campus of Gettysburg College. Small, intensive workshops will be led this year by Stanley Plumly (poetry), Lee K. Abbott (fiction), and Rebecca McClanahan (nonfiction). Come join us in creating a community of writers in bucolic, convivial, and historic Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

Arrival and Departure
Check-in will take place from 12:00–5:00 pm on Wednesday, June 9. A welcoming reception will be held at Gettysburg College’s Glatfelter Lodge, starting at 8:00 pm. On Sunday evening, participants will gather for an open-mic, followed by a closing social and barbecue. Check-out is on Monday, June 14.

Workshops, Panels, Manuscript Consultations, and Readings
Morning workshops (from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon) will commence Thursday, June 10, and continue Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. These workshops will focus on the critique and revision of new writing. Afternoon craft talks (1:30–3:00 pm) will provide participants opportunities to talk with working writers and editors about craft, publishing, and genre issues. Private manuscript consultations, with an editor from The Gettysburg Review, offer participants an intensive, one-on-one critique of a manuscript. Author readings and book signings will be held Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings starting at 8:00 pm. An open-mic student reading will take place on Sunday afternoon.

Admission and Scholarship
Admission to the conference is based on application date and on the application materials submitted. Two partial-tuition scholarships of $350.00 each will be awarded in each genre. All registered conference participants will receive a complimentary one-year subscription to The Gettysburg Review.

Housing
Conference participants may make their own reservations at Gettysburg-area hotels (please note that hotels tend to fill up rapidly in the summer, and are often booked many months in advance). Or, conference attendees can stay on campus in single-occupancy, air-conditioned rooms.

Cost
Conference Tuition: $750.00 (includes continental breakfast, box lunch, and closing barbecue)
Housing: $300.00 (five nights—on campus)
