Marilyn Abildskov to appear in The Best American Essays 2018

We just received word that Marilyn Abildskov's essay, "The Trick: Notes toward a Theory of Plot" which first appeared in our Autumn 2017 issue, will be published in The Best American Essays 2018. We want to extend our congratulations to Abildskov and gratitude to the Best American series. The talented and prolific Hilton Als is this year's guest editor.

In "The Trick: Notes toward a Theory of Plot,"

Abildskov's dark humor and naked honesty combine to create an almost-gothic interrogation of the human condition.

The Pulitzer–Prize winning and Guggenheim-honored Hilton Als curates the best essays from hundreds of magazines, journals, and websites, bringing “the fierce style of street reading and the formal tradition of critical inquiry, reads culture, race, and gender” (New York Times) to the task.
