MADWOMAN by McCallum longlisted for 2018 OCM Boca Prize Shara McCallum's Madwoman has been longlisted for the 2018 OCM Bocas Prize for Caribbean Literature. Her poem "Madwoman Apocrypha" from this collection first appeared in the Gettysburg Review, in our Summer 2016 issue. Considered the leading literary award for Caribbean writers, the Prize recognizes books in three genre categories — poetry, fiction, and literary non-fiction — published by Caribbean authors in the preceding year. In the poetry category, Barbadian Kamau Brathwaite’s Liviticus and Bahamian Sonia Farmer Infidelities join Shara McCallum's Madwoman. The judges said of the three collections, “we were thinking of the representation of the materiality of the book itself and book art traditions in the Caribbean as part of the books’ meaning, as well as the fusion of local themes with international experimental approaches to form and voice, and the voices for our point in history going forward.” About the Gettysburg Review The Gettysburg Review, published by Gettysburg College, is recognized as one of the country’s premier literary journals.
