FABULOUS BEAST: POEMS by Sarah Kain Gutowski

We are so excited to share the news that Sarah Kain Gutowski’s debut collection Fabulous Beast: Poems will be published August 1st by Texas Review Press.

Fabulous Beast: Poems explores what it means to be a woman divided between biology, ambition, and desire. By reimagining the traditional forms of fable, fairy tale, and myth, and borrowing a bit from magical realism, each poem contends with decisions faced by women who no longer fit neatly in traditional roles and so must construct new ones.

Her poem “What Our Mothers Know as Love” was featured in our Summer 2012 issue.

Sarah Kain Gutowski is the author of the chapbook Fabulous Beast: The Sow (Hyacinth Girl Press, 2015). She has attended the Bread Loaf Writers Conference in Sicily, Western Michigan University’s Prague Summer Program, and the Southampton Writers Conference Script Development Lab. She holds an MFA in poetry from New York University and a BA from James Madison University. Her writing has been published in various print and online journals, including the Threepenny Review, So To Speak: A Feminist Journal of Language and Art, Painted Bride Quarterly, the Gettysburg Review, Verse Daily, and the Southern Review.
